Some of the brilliant volunteer litter-pickers from Saturday's Wingham Community Clean-Up - 16 March 2024

More than 35 residents turned out to help with the Wingham Community Clean Up on Saturday 16 March helping to make our beautiful village even smarter.

Having met up at The Dog at Wingham for tea and coffee and bacon rolls from Wilmshurst Bakery (sorry that we didn't quite have enough for everyone!), volunteer litter-pickers set off around 9.30 in their hi-viz vests to different parts of the village to collect rubbish from the verges, footpaths and park areas and returned by 11.45 for delicious soup and bread courtesy of The Dog.

The Parish Council would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to help; a couple of people could only help for an hour or so before going on to work or other commitments, so the time given to help was really appreciated. Next time we'll get a picture altogether before we set off so no-one misses out!

Also a huge thank you to Marc, Lauren and all the staff at The Dog at Wingham for their help and support of the event and to Richard at Wilmshurst bakery for supplying the bacon rolls.

The litter picking equipment was loaned by Dover District Council and they also arranged the pick up of all the bags collected.

Though we plan to continue with our annual community clean-up, any resident can sign up to Dover's Community Caretaker scheme to make use of the litter picking equipment in our Community Shed in St Mary's Meadow. For more information and to sign up, please visit DDC's website here:
